Our Services

  • General Structural Surveys

We provide general structural survey encompassing all major structural elements of the respective building. We will give a general condition appraisal making specific note of any structural defects. Respective remedial repairs will be advised as required.

  • Specific Structural Surveys

These are often requested in respect of the findings of a non-structural building survey. We will often be instructed to focus on a specific defect within the fabric of a property. Our report will be based solely on the driving mechanism, the nature of the defect and the respective remedial repair works required.

  • Barn Surveys

Structural barn surveys are often undertaken at the planning stage (including Class Q permitted development) of a proposed barn conversion. They are generally required by the local authority to prove the structural adequacy of the barn for the proposed change of use. Our report will describe the general condition of the barn and outline any remedial repair works that may need to be undertaken to safeguard its structural stability.

  • Timber Frame

We have good working relationships with a number of reputable timber frame manufacturers, for whom we regularly supply structural timber frame design packages. We also provide timber frame calculations for smaller scale projects such as domestic extensions. We have worked on projects ranging from single panel design up to large public and commercial projects in and around Devon and Cornwall as well as on a national level.

  • Bespoke

When creating an individual and bespoke structure or element thereof, we have experience of providing designs for unusual and noteworthy projects. We have worked on a range of bespoke projects such as floating and spiral staircases, ornate hand railing, glazed floor decks and the like.

  • Renovations / Conversions

Renovations and conversions encompass an extremely wide variety of work. From the removal of a load-bearing wall to full conversion of a redundant barn, we are able to provide a full design service in respect of all the structural engineering aspects required.

  • Extensions

It is true to say that not every extension project will require structural engineering input. However, there are a number of instances where, in order to gain Building Regulations Approval, structural calculations and drawings are vital. This can range from a simple beam design check to a full steel frame structure depending on the extent and nature of the extension works proposed.

  • Loft Conversions

It is often a prerequisite of a loft conversion to obtain structural design calculations for any proposed changes or additions to the structure of the roof. Although, in some instances, planning permission is not required, structural details are often directly requested by local authorities in order to gain Building Regulation Approval. Having completed numerous loft conversions we are able to deliver efficient and practical solutions.

  • Retaining walls

We can provide structural design calculations and drawings for a number of retaining structures. These include mass blockwork, concrete reinforced diaphragm, shuttered mass concrete and pile-propped walls. Having a great deal of experience in this field of work we would be able to provide advice as to the most suitable form of wall for any situation.

  • Steel Portal Frames

Steel frames are used for a number of applications. The efficiency afforded by steel portal frames is such that they are particularly suitable for use in the agricultural and industrial sectors.

We have experience of designing large span frames using castellated or cellular beams to achieve designs that suit the individual needs of each individual project.
